Apple MacBook Pro M1 Max

Apple launched their latest MacBook Pro laptops - 14 and 16-inch models (sadly no 18-inch model).

Linus and Luke of Linus Media Group posted their podcast, The WAN Show; in which they stated Mac and Max is too close for clear branding.

I am MaX, I am a Mac user; I will buy a MacBook Pro with M1 Max - full meta reached.

Thoughts

HDMI 2.0 is unacceptable; ditch HDMI 2.0 in favour of DisplayPort 1.5 or at least HDMI 2.1.

Going from four TB3 ports to three TB4 ports is not a good decision.
I was hoping for six TB4 ports.

The return of MagSafe in the form of the third version is fantastic!

SD card is not useful; CF card may have been good.
A pure PCIe port (something like an OCuLink) would be wonderful.

USB Type-A is not important to me - I dock or dongle to Type-A.

I doubt 10 Gigabit Ethernet would fit in the chassis; however, it would be useful to many. 10 GE RJ45 would not be useful because I run optical not copper Ethernet.

Apple's latest MacBook Pro looks at professional users instead of enterprise users - this is a portable editing rig, this is not an extremely high-end enterprise rig.

An interesting mix of ports it used to have before Apple decided sleek single-type ports were the answer.

Lots of users are pleased to see the SD card reader; most of whom are photographers.

Videographers are not bothered by the SD card due to most cameras utilising CF card storage media.

I will be purchasing a 2021 MacBook Pro 16-inch with M1 Max and 64 GB DDR5 RAM.

I am undecided what to spec for storage.

I do not do video work; however, I have chuntered through my 2 TB in my Mac mini M1; 4 TB is the minimum spec I would opt for.

My Mac mini M1 will become my backup Mac.
